The pituitary is the “master control” – it makes hormones that affect growth and the functions of other glands in the body.
Known as the “master control gland,” the pituitary gland is a pea-sized organ located at the base of the brain. This master gland induces many hormones that move throughout the body and governs specific processes or stimulates other glands to produce other hormones. Pituitary disorders commonly originate from benign, secretory or non-secretory tumors. Secretory tumors produce too much of a hormone, while non-secretory tumors do not produce. Symptoms are based on the type of tumor, as well as whether it is location-anterior (front) and posterior (back) of the gland.
Complications can arise if the tumors enlarge and intercept standard functions of the pituitary gland. These tumors can fall into three categories: hypersecretion (too much), hyposecretion (too little), and tumor mass (when the tumor presses against the pituitary gland or other areas in the brain). Patients may also experience diabetes insipid, permanent hormone deficiency, pituitary apoplexy and much more.
Since symptoms vary and depend on the glands that are affected, Aylo Health treatment varies by the condition. Treatment involves a composite of ministrations to manage it. They may include medications, radiation therapy, or surgery.
