Immunizations & Vaccines
What are Immunizations & Vaccines?
Immunizations and vaccines are a type of preventive care service that help stop the spread of highly contagious infectious disease.
Immunizations, also known as vaccines or vaccinations, are important for a variety of reasons — the most important being that they protect people from serious illnesses or potentially life-threatening diseases. They also aid in preventing mass infectious breakouts in the community.
When someone is vaccinated, it allows their body to build immunity to that virus or disease — making it much more difficult for that disease to spread. This also protects those individuals who cannot be vaccinated, such as young babies or people with certain medical conditions. The recommendation for vaccines varies by patient and depends on a number of things such as age, lifestyle, and medical condition.

Immunizations & Vaccines are the most cost-effect way of preventing serious illness and life-threatening disease.
Unfortunately, treating illness is more expensive than preventing illness and disease. All immunizations (vaccines) are required to go through a rigorous testing process to ensure effectiveness and safety before they can be approved. And like many medications, there is always a chance someone may experience side effects caused by a vaccine — like a sore arm or low-grade fever. Severe side effects of immunizations are very rare.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Preventive Care?
Regular preventive care, such as a yearly physical, wellness checkup, or well-woman exam, can help you stay healthy and catch any potential health issues early on. Our goal is to help you understand the benefits of your preventive visit and any out-of-pocket costs you might have, so you can take advantage of the care you need to stay healthy.
Are Preventive Care visits covered?
We want to make sure you’re informed about potential out-of-pocket charges that may occur during your preventive office visit. While most preventive visits are covered at no cost to you, you may be charged for certain things, such as:
- Discussing new symptoms or health concerns that are discovered during your visit
- Receiving treatment or testing for an existing health condition
- Undergoing procedures such as spirometry, EKGs, or biopsies
- Having labs or radiology tests that are not considered preventive
If you’re unsure about your lab or radiology benefit, we encourage you to refer to your Insurance carrier for benefits and coverage. Our team is here to help you understand these potential charges, so you can make informed decisions about your care.
