Why is a Lung Cancer Screening CT?

A Lung Cancer Screening CT is a low-dose scan that is used to detect signs of lung cancer in those who are high risk.

At Aylo Health, we know that early detection is the best protection when it comes to all types of cancer, which is why for qualifying patients, we offer a lung cancer screening CT that checks for lung cancer, even before there are any symptoms.

This scan is the only suggested screening to detect lung cancer and is recommended for long-term current or previous smokers who may not show any signs or symptoms.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide.

Every year worldwide, more people die from lung cancer than from breast, colon, and prostate cancer combined. Lung cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in both men and women — claiming more than 131,000 lives every year just in the U.S. alone.

What to expect during a Lung Cancer Screening CT

During a low-dose lung cancer screening CT at our Imaging facility, you will be given a pillow and be asked to lie on your back. The imaging tech will then move to a separate room where they can still see and talk to you. You will be asked to remain very still while the table slides in and out of the CT machine that will create the scans of your lungs.

Once the tech is ready to start the scan, they will have you briefly hold your breath to create clear images of your lungs. Our team of specialists will provide the appropriate care and follow up if there are any abnormal findings on the scan. The overall appointment lasts roughly 30 minutes from start to finish, and the scan itself takes less than a minute.
