Early Detection Saves Lives: The Life-Saving Power of a Mammogram
September 9 • 2025
At Aylo Health, we see firsthand how early detection can make all the difference. Amy Huber and Brittany Thoms, share their experiences with mammograms and why prioritizing breast health is so important.
Amy Huber: A Survivor’s Perspective
When Amy Huber went in for her annual mammogram in March of 2011, she thought it would be just another routine screening. Instead, it became a turning point in her life. Her doctor noticed something unusual on the images and recommended further testing. Soon after, Amy received the diagnosis she never expected: breast cancer.
Thanks to her commitment to yearly screenings, Amy’s cancer was detected early. That early detection gave her the opportunity to begin treatment right away and ultimately save her life.
“Early detection is the key,” Amy says. “Your life really depends on it. Don’t be afraid.”
For Amy, getting involved in the community became an important part of her healing and growth. She shares, “Getting involved with community events gave me strength, connection, and a sense of purpose beyond my breast cancer journey. Whether it be a fun 5k run/walk, a Mud Run, luncheons, or support group gatherings, it was a fun way to share my experience with others.” These experiences not only gave Amy support but also allowed her to encourage and uplift others facing similar challenges.
Throughout her journey, Amy has taken charge of her health by staying consistent with annual physicals and openly communicating with her doctor. Because of her family history, she began getting mammograms early, and today, she’s living a healthy, vibrant life with confidence in her proactive choices.
Brittany Thoms: Feeling Comfortable Matters
Brittany Thoms admits she was scared to get her first mammogram and even delayed it for a while. But once she chose Aylo Health, she realized it wasn’t nearly as bad as she feared. The team was supportive, the process was quick, and she left feeling reassured and at ease.
“I really trusted the process,” Brittany shares. “The tech made me feel at ease and assured me it wasn’t going to be as painful as I thought. It was super easy, really fast. I was pleasantly surprised getting my first mammogram.”
Brittany’s experience highlights another important aspect of preventive care: feeling safe and supported can make it easier for women to take this crucial step in protecting their health.
Why Regular Mammograms Matter
Mammograms are one of the most effective tools in the fight against breast cancer. By finding cancer in its earliest stages, when it is most treatable, mammograms can make all the difference in health outcomes. Amy’s story is a powerful reminder of why women should stay consistent with their yearly screenings.
