Aylo Health is working to bring smiles to children this season through its third annual holiday toy drive. Now through Dec. 19, anyone who donates a new, unwrapped toy valued at $20 or more will receive a coupon for a free 3D Mammogram upgrade.
This year, all toys will be donated to Haven House, a full-service domestic violence shelter and program dedicated to keeping people safe from harm from violence in the family. Haven House operates a 40-bed emergency shelter in Henry County and assists clients with transportation, medical needs, legal advocacy, educational support and ultimately moving into a permanent living situation.
3D Mammography screenings, also known as Tomosynthesis, detect invasive breast cancers at a rate 41 percent higher than 2D Mammography and reduce false-positive results by 40 percent.
More than 2.8 million American women have survived breast cancer, with annual screenings and early detection playing a large part. With age- and risk-appropriate screening mammograms now covered by most insurance providers at no cost to the patient, an upgrade to a 3D screening typically costs $60. With the toy drive coupon, that fee will be waived. The coupon is transferrable to a friend or family member, so everyone is encouraged to donate, even if you do not need a mammogram.
Toy donations may be made at any of Aylo’s nine locations across Henry, Butts, and Rockdale counties. The community has donated more than 700 toys as part of the drive over the past two years.
“Our commitment to early detection stretches across many cancers and chronic diseases,” said Collyn A. Steele, M.D., a family physician at Aylo. “It is proven that early detection is the best protection, which is why at Aylo Health we follow the American Cancer Society’s recommendation that all women over 40 years of age have a mammogram performed annually.”
“This toy drive is a great way for us to help those at need in our community this holiday season while promoting potentially life-saving screenings,” she continued.
