Healthy Mother’s Day Gifts

Let’s face the facts. It’s hard to shop for Mother’s Day. How do you find something that fairly represents your appreciation for such an important figure in your life? Should it be personal? Or do you buy something practical? Well, here’s an idea—why not go with something useful AND meaningful? Like the gift of health.

The gift of health, in any form, can show how much you care for her well-being. And because a wellness-related gift is specific to her situation, it’s also a very personal gift that shows how well you know her.

We know that making a selection can still be a daunting task, so we’ve compiled a few ideas to help make this year’s Mother’s Day gift a win for years to come.

It All Starts with Data(sometimes)

Fitness trackers have been popular for several years now, and they’re constantly evolving. From cell phones to watches, and now rings—these tiny devices monitor everything from heart rate to exercise, and calorie count to sleep habits. Some are highly advanced and complicated to use, but others are designed for the technophobe.  They do a few things, and they’re really easy to use. The Apple Watch is stylish but also a very effective tracker. You can make calls, ask Siri how many calories you’ve burned, or listen to music while you jog. Another more affordable option is the TomTom Touch Cardio. It’s both Android and iPhone compatible and is under $100. If used regularly, these devices can help encourage mom to implement exercise into her daily routine.

For Members Only

If your mother isn’t quite into plowing through HIIT workouts or running, why not purchase her a weekly or monthly yoga pass at a local studio or gym? Though it may seem like you’re just “stretching,” yoga can demand as much effort as running on a treadmill. If your mom is a yoga newbie, Hatha Yoga is a great start— it’s a slow-paced version of yoga, primarily composed of maintaining poses and concentrating on your breathing. If she’s looking for more of a challenge, Hot and Bikram Yoga might be a better fit. Here, she can achieve her vinyasa, sweat, and burn fat all at the same time. Whichever route you take, be sure she clears it with her doctor before starting any exercise program.

Spa Day, of course!

Spa days are a popular Mother’s Day gift and for good reason. From deep tissue massages to simple mani-pedis, a day at the spa can be a highly relaxing AND exhilarating experience. Every spa has it’s own unique feel and set of services, so take some time to find one that’s a good fit. The HoneyComb Cottage or Scarlett’s Retreat: Day Spa & Boutique are a couple of local options for you to check out. Or go to https://www.spafinder.com/ as a starting point.

Just the Essentials

An Essential Oil diffuser can be a great companion to your mom’s everyday ritual. If you’re not familiar with Essential Oils, they’re responsible for giving plants their distinctive aroma and are known to carry loads of benefits. And because each oil has it’s own unique properties, you can create a gift package designed just for her. For example, lavender and chamomile oil can help create a relaxing environment. Lemon is associated with anti-bacterial properties, plus it brings a fresh-clean aroma to your room!

Healing Plants

Plants are an affordable option,  and they offer a variety of benefits. Research has proven that some plants can reduce stress and most work to freshen the air. Certain species of plants even filter harmful pollutants such as; formaldehyde, benzene, and ammonia. The best plants to help combat these harmful chemicals include– the Boston fern, English ivy, spider plant, bamboo palm, weeping fig, flamingo lily, peace lily, and the cornstalk dracaena. Not only are they helpful, but they are also beautiful and become grand fixtures that can brighten any space in the household.

A Taste of the Sea

A salt bath is one of the most inexpensive, yet most appreciated, gifts you can share. Put together a bath package fully equipped with an aromatic selection including roses, lavender, lovely soaps, bath scrubs, and body butter. Be creative! Establish a theme by making locations your focal point. Can’t afford a trip to Hawaii? Make a Hawaiian Bath Soak and bring the Luau to the tub. Grab some plants, position them by the bathtub, make a lei (crown of flowers), and play some soft music. You can also up the ante by making her a tropical smoothie like this one.

Teas Please

Herbal teas are a great way to begin or end the day. A warm cup of lavender tea with lemon can be soothing and a great de-stressor. Make a tea box for your mom, complete with both caffeinated and herbal. Black tea, such as chai, is caffeinated and can be a healthy alternative to coffee. Green tea is a fulfilling beverage choice for lunch, and floral or herbal teas, such as hibiscus and rooibos, can be enjoyed in the evening.

Finally, a visit to Aylo Health may not be as soothing as a salt bath, but the health benefits are clear! If mom is due for a Physical Exam, that’s a great place to start. We also offer diagnostic tests like Mammograms and can put a comprehensive plan to help her get and stay healthy.

Whatever you choose to get that special mom in your life, we hope you both have a great Mother’s Day!
