Tip 1: Hydrate for Success
Drinking plenty of water before your physical can help make things go smoothly. Hydration is key for accurate blood draws and ensures your body performs at its best. Before your appointment, check in with your provider to see if you need to fast for certain tests, such as cholesterol or blood sugar levels. If fasting is required, scheduling your appointment earlier in the day can make the process easier. To ensure accurate results the following blood tests typically require fasting: Glucose tolerance test, Lipid panel, Basic metabolic panel (BMP), Vitamin B12 test, Iron test, Triglyceride test, Creatinine test, Renal function panel, Diabetes blood test.
Tip 2: Wear Loose, Comfortable Clothes
When you arrive for your physical, opt for loose-fitting clothing. This makes it easier for your provider to check your vitals and conduct any movement tests. Think about clothing that allows easy access for blood pressure cuffs and helps you feel comfortable throughout the process.
Tip 3: Bring a List of Symptoms, Medications, or Questions
Make sure to come prepared. Jot down any symptoms you’ve been experiencing, medications you’re taking, or questions about your health. This is your time to talk to your provider and get all the answers you need. Having a list ensures you won’t forget anything important and allows for a more thorough discussion about your well-being.
Tip 4: Arrive a Little Early
Arriving a few minutes early will help reduce any pre-appointment stress. It gives you time to fill out any necessary paperwork, get settled, and mentally prepare for the appointment. Starting off your physical with a calm mindset can set the tone for a productive visit.
