Three Surprising Signs of Serious Conditions

Some health symptoms seem minor until they aren’t. It’s easy to brush off something like feeling tired or having a sore back, but sometimes these seemingly harmless signs can point to something more serious. At Aylo Health, we believe in listening closely to your body, and helping you connect the dots. Here are three surprising symptoms that could be a sign it’s time to dig a little deeper.

Back pain. Thirst. Fatigue. These might seem normal, but they could be warning signs your body is sending you. Jason Caudell, FNP-C walks us through all of these signs in the video below.

Back Pain

Sure, back pain can come from a bad mattress or a long day at work. But did you know that, in some cases, back pain—especially in women—can be a sign of a heart attack?

Women are more likely than men to experience atypical heart attack symptoms, and upper back pain, shoulder discomfort, or even jaw pain may show up instead of the expected chest pressure. If you feel back pain along with nausea, shortness of breath, dizziness, or fatigue, it’s time to take it seriously.

Constant Thirst

Feeling thirsty all the time, even when you’ve had plenty of water? That could be a red flag.

Unquenchable thirst is often one of the earliest symptoms of diabetes. It happens when your body is trying to flush out excess sugar through your urine, which leaves you dehydrated and craving more fluids. If you’re also urinating frequently, feeling more tired than usual, or experiencing unexpected weight changes, it’s worth getting your blood sugar checked.

Extreme Fatigue

If you’re sleeping eight hours a night (or more!) and still feel exhausted, your body might be telling you something’s off. Chronic fatigue can be a sign of an under-active thyroid, also known as hypothyroidism. When your thyroid doesn’t produce enough hormones, your body slows down leading to fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, depression, and even changes in heart rate.

It’s one of the most under-diagnosed conditions, but fortunately, it’s also highly treatable once identified.

When to See a Provider

It’s easy to dismiss these kinds of symptoms, especially when life is busy. But your body’s signals are worth paying attention to, especially if they don’t go away or start to get worse. If you’re experiencing persistent back pain, ongoing fatigue despite rest, or constant thirst that doesn’t improve with hydration, it’s time to schedule a checkup.

You should also see a provider right away if symptoms are interfering with your daily life, accompanied by other concerning signs (like dizziness, nausea, or shortness of breath), or if something just feels “off.”
